Julianne from the Everyday Therapy Podcast invited Denette Mann, Psychotherapy Services, a therapist and a Certified Self-Compassion Teacher, to speak about How to Cultivate Self-Compassion.
Researchers find that more self-compassion leads to more constant feelings of self-worth, more than self-esteem. That’s because self-esteem may depend on comparing yourself favorably to others (and being judgy), while self-compassion is an intrinsic acceptance of yourself. These same research studies show people who accept their personal failures are more likely to take steps to improve themselves. Women who accept their physical imperfections have a more positive body image no matter their BMI.
